Mother’s Day 2019
This is one of my earliest artistic efforts with woodworking and it taught me a lot. What’s the saying? “Experience is the best teacher”? Or is it, “experience is that thing you don’t have until just after you needed it”? In any case…
I’m still pretty proud of how this came out, despite all the flaws and mistakes I see. The entire thing is made of oak, it taught me about raising grain and sanding, and even some lessons about shou sugi ban, or finishing wood by charring it. I would be tempted to revisit this now and improve my execution, but experience gained and lessons learned will always be important to me, so I love it, flaws and all.
